Pat McCurdy and the Confidential's "The Good Life": The way McCurdy can knock off instant pop classics, we have to wonder why he still in town (though his latest album seems certain to arouse big-label interest). If McCurdy has a divine mandate to write danceable tunes, he sometimes pushes his gift too far: A few songs here are all chorus and no verse. But most are so perfectly conceived (even the lyrics!) that we'll forgive him for being overeager.
